Although it has been mentioned before, this bears repeating: magick, properly used, develops the potential of an individual in a realistic, practical way – that is, it produces, from the experiences undergone, a genuine insight and thus an understanding of self, others and the “world”.
This is in complete contrast to what happens outside of genuine esoteric traditions where there is adherence by the individual to abstract doctrines, ideas and beliefs – that is, there is little or no understanding based on experience, on the reality apprehended through trials, hardship, explorations, and discovery. Magick returns the individual to their inner core – destroying illusion, affectation and abstraction of the arid intellectual type.
Of course, one should really say – real magick, properly used, does this. There is an awful lot of pretentious “magic” and “magick” about. What differentiates real magick is first the practical nature of its methods (which are both “internal” – i.e. psychic – and “external” – i.e. involving practical work and experiences in the “real world”, not just “in the head”) and second its structure or system: a working toward a definite goal. This goal is Adeptship (part of which may be said to be the Jungian “individualization”) and what lies beyond even this: wisdom. The striving for this goal (and the striving is necessary: it is not a “gift” from someone) changes the individual in significant ways – the is a re-orientation of consciousness, insights and achievement.
The way of magick (as explicated by the seven-fold way) enables each individual Initiate to develop their won unique understanding or “view of life” or “world-view” – that is, it creates character, it uplifts the individual, separating them from the anonymous majority who mostly merely exist rather than live and who never evolve and understand. Today, individuals are “mass produced” – and conform to the accepted ideas and norms, even in the “rebellion” that occurs, where the “herd” or some fashionable “trend” or “idea” is followed with any understanding.
Everything is categorized, made into moral opposites – and there is developing in society an almost religious zeal about certain attitudes, a zeal which restricts individual freedom and expression and which destroys genuine individuality. All this, however, goes mostly unnoticed, so low is the level of general insight – a situation brought about, in part, by the comfortable lives most people in the West today live; insulated as they are by technology, by material possessions, by the complexity of modern life and by ideal from life in its realness, rawness and danger.
That is is necessary to give an example to illustrate the categorization and zeal, which is increasingly occurring, is a sad reflection on the general level of understanding. The example to consider is the disease of “ism-itus”: the creation of an abstract idea, described by a word ending is “ism”. Examples of the “ism” are then sought - in society, individuals and so on, and then that society and those individuals must be “re-educated” is the “ism” is found since the “ism” is regarded as morally reprehensible, the abstract idea being formulated in an abstract moral way. The procedure is not new - it is essentially a religious fundamentalism, extrapolated into politics and social concerns, and may be said to derive from Nazarene belief and ideas.
The “ism” itself becomes a “totem-word” – almost a “magical incantation” - and is surrounded by an aura of guilt. To be associated with an “ism” – even worse to be an “ism” or be called the “ism” – is reprehensible, almost a “sin”, and in certain countries definitely a crime, punishable by due process of law (and usually, if convicted, by imprisonment). What this amounts to – when taken with the other abstractions foisted upon individuals (the “ism”, remember is only one example of this) – is the production of essentially characterless people who seldom if ever have any real experience of life, who conform to a certain set of attitudes, and who are psychically unhealthy in that they are infected with notions of “sin” and moral absolutes. There is little real understanding - only acceptance of the abstract forms which have been and are being projected onto and into “history”, “society” and individuals and which give the comforting illusion of “understanding” and knowledge (and also, in most cases, a smug moral feeling of superiority such as one sees in certain religious types).
Magick, however, is a means to destroy all this – and thus it really is subversive and dangerous since it can free the individual, returning them to that inner Being where insight is born and from which understanding, and ultimately wisdom, can be cultivated.
The is the reality of magick – it produces the only “freedom” that is real and which has meaning: that inner one, which allows further steps to be taken, which allows evolution to be continued. For Magickal Initiation is a personal liberation –when an individual takes responsibility for his or her own evolution.
Further, this way of freedom, this means of liberation, should not be used only by a few - it should be used by everyone, creating a whole new society (or societies) of Adepts: a whole new era or Aeon in which all have attained to self-insight.
Idealistic?
Of course – but still possible, even if unlikely for at least the next few centuries. But herein lies that almost sacred duty of each Initiate – to keep this possibility alive by maintaining the reality and effectiveness of genuine magick.

CIVIT OIL – IS CIVIT OIL THE SAME AS CIVET OIL?
I have finished reading NAOS ; A Practical Guide to Modern Magick two times , and The Codex Saerus; The Black Book of Satan 1 , 2 & 3 two times , and have been looking for a specific oil mentioned on page 8 in the chapter on initiation and stage one titled civit oil.
Is this the same as civet oil? If so , where do you recommend the best place to place an order on this oil? If civit and civet oil are two different types of oil , is there any place on the internet where I can get information about civit oil?
WORK BEGUN ON ONAOS – PART II.
I finished part 1 of my diary , and am now begun work on Part 2. Part I of my diary is titled ONAOs while Part II is titled ONAOs; a Path Less Travelled. Part I ends with my decision to reject my early belief in the existence of a supreme being in the Judeo – Christian context altogether , and Part II is about my attempt at undergoing initiation using Iceland as a focal point.
I have already bought a beautiful quartz crystal which costed less than 100 USD , but it wasn´t tetrahedron shaped (will order a tetrahedron shaped crystal later anyway). In february this year , I began to plan staying alone for three months as far away from Reykjavik as I could in the near future , and to undergo the first rite of initiation as described in NAOs. I wonder if civit oil is absolutely necessary as a part of this initiation.
If it is – then I am willing to obtain it. ONAOs is set to be a two part diary.
After ONAOs I will begin work on several volumes of work which are to be titled Summa Diabolica. Summa Diabolica will simply detail most of my studies of modern day Satanism and what I term post – millenial Satanism which is by my definition the Satanism that is being practiced by most people who consider themselves to be Serious Satanists in the current era.
warm regards,
Hi AVS,
Yes I think it’s the same thing. “Civit” must be a weird British dialectical variant
Whatever it’s called, it’s an oily substance that comes out of a cat’s ass that only lives in certain parts of Africa. How bizarre is that!? So yeah, you’ll be rubbing yourself down with catass juice. But I remember that the ancient Knights Templar’s Baphomet was some kind of Cat; and that there was an indigenous race of people living on the British isle I think called the Cat people? Who knows if that has anything to do with anything.
Amazon.com has Civet oil: http://www.amazon.com/Civet-Musk-Perfume-Oil-1-oz/dp/B000EB83IQ
You can google for other sellers and stuff for better quality and a better price.
I would order the Civet oil and then mix it with a base oil like almond oil or even olive oil which doesn’t have a smell to it, so you’ll have enough to oil your body down with. Don’t forget your nooks and crannies.
You’ll also need Ambergis oil, which you will find at the bottom of the Amazon page I found for you. Ambergis oil comes from a whale of some kind or something. Lord only knows what part of a whale it comes from. Do we really wanna know? I don’t.
Camping alone for three months out in the middle of nowhere in Iceland sure sounds extreme, especially in the winter. I hope you do this in the spring or summer season when its warmer over there [if it ever gets warm there].
I would also plan ahead and take a lot of MRIs [military rations], astronaut food, and/or dried meat and stuff in a very big back pack. Unless your fine eating dirt, roots, and bugs. You can order MRIs and astronaut food online. Just google that too. Astronaut food is pretty much the same thing as MRIs: Shit.
You will need a good Rambo Knife, like the kind with all those cool stuff in the handle. Also bring with you a sling shot, lots of fishing line, and a tackle box of fish hooks and stuff. Trust me, you will die out there if you think you will be hunting yaks or lemmings [whatever wild life is in Iceland] with a hand made bow and arrow!
Naturally I would strongly recommend that you do your sinister camp out near a body of water such as a lake or river; unless you wanna do it like Bear Grills on Man Versus Nature and drink your own urine for 3 months! Make sure the river or lake has plenty of edible vegetation around it and fish in it. It would be better if your lake or river is near a beach of some kind, that way you can eat the shell fish that grows on the rocks. Don’t eat anything raw and boil your water before you drink it; or you’ll be going home sick and early. Then, you’d need to start all over. And bring lots of toilet paper and babywipes, and a small shovel.
If you’re a girl, I would bring razors, tampons, and your essential HBA [health and beauty accessories] too. You don’t want to come back looking like some cave girl with bad skin and a yeast infection. It’s not worth it! Shiseido and Lancome has the best skincare products. Bring tampons or at least those maxipads or you’ll be ragging all over the place. I would visit my gynecologist ASAP as soon as you get back from your 3 month camp out; just to be on the safe side. Shave your pubes and bring shampoo and conditioner [toothbrush and toothpaste] or you’ll get lice and crabs maybe. You can find these in the travel section at Target or Walmart. It’s unfortunate that David Myatt wasn’t a girl when he created those ordeals. Just be smart and adapt it.
You are going to be bored out of your hella mind, so bring a note book or your diary with you to write. Also bring NAOS with you and the Black Book of Satan so you can keep you sanity by doing things in the book. I would start learning how to meditate now, so when you are out there and you have nothing to do, you can just meditate. You can find certain things on meditation and other mind occupying things in Opus Vrilis: http://whitestaracception.wordpress.com/chapter-v-raising-leviathan/ & http://whitestaracception.wordpress.com/chapter-xi-the-priesthood/ & http://whitestaracception.wordpress.com/chapter-xxv-mind-control/ & http://whitestaracception.wordpress.com/chapter-xxix-phasing/
I would also recommend you read something like Robinson Caruso and watch Castaway to get your mind into the culture of being alone in the middle of nowhere. Just use your intelligence and bring things with you you will need to stay alive and not die.
Good luck! Tell us how your experience goes!
Chloe
