TRIBUTE TO IBN MYATT

ibnmyatt1

There is a madness to the methods. Beneath his many methods of expressing himself, whether its the ONA, the Numinous Way, Islam, or the stanza’s of one of his poems, beneath it all is a mind struggling to discover itself and its relationship to the beautiful mysteries of the Cosmos which surrounds us. At the end, every mystic is enraptured by the same Supernal Madness.

DARK WINE

God has given us a dark wine so potent that,
drinking it, we leave the two worlds.

God has put into the form of hashish a power
to deliver the taster from self-consciousness.

God has made sleep so
that it erases every thought.

God made Majnun love Layla so much that
just her dog would cause confusion in him.

There are thousands of wines
that can take over our minds.

Don’t think all ecstacies
are the same!

Jesus was lost in his love for God.
His donkey was drunk with barley.

Drink from the presence of saints,
not from those other jars.

Every object, every being,
is a jar full of delight.

Be a conoisseur,
and taste with caution.

Any wine will get you high.
Judge like a king, and choose the purest,

the ones unadulterated with fear,
or some urgency about “what’s needed.”

Drink the wine that moves you
as a camel moves when it’s been untied,

and is just ambling about.

- Rumi

    Wine, by DW Myatt

    Stale
    I once drank you
Knowing no difference because of herbs.

She held me, her cunning hands
    That did not wish
Nor offer the warmth that snared my soul:
    The wine was
    Intoxicating our senses
    But only I was drunk:
    She laughed.

    I needed rest
    Dreaming marriage under sun -
    Until bright morning came
    When she, alas, changed
Her form in the reality of the room
And I was left to walk with my sack
    Down the dusty track
Past a grove of sun-burnt trees
    Toward those distant hills:

And yet the white-washed house was only
    One step
    Along my Way.

    BTW, great blog.

Thanks Darky. I wish I knew what DWM saw in ONA, if it helped him find peace and his place in this universe. If he really had sinister intentions, or if it was just the product of an active living mind sharing it’s methods of experiencing life directly. Perhap it was a way to shatter everything we have held onto, to break these proverbial walls down, like Shiva’s flames that burns down the idols of our self fabricated human institutions, so that we might see what is left, when the illusion is gone: Numinous Light? Agios o Baphomet.
